Is online EMDR effective?
Research indicates that you can see the benefits of EMDR much faster than you normally would for regular talk therapy, and that online EMDR therapy can be just as effective as in-person EMDR sessions. Over 30 research studies have been conducted on EMDR that suggested that EMDR is effective in treating trauma. One research study has found that after just three 90-minute EMDR sessions, 84%-90% of single-trauma survivors no meet criteria for PTSD. A Kaiser Permanente study revealed that six 50-minute EMDR sessions resulted in 100% of single-trauma survivors and 77% of those with multiple traumas to be PTSD-free. Even combat veterans found relief in 12 sessions, with 77% walking away from PTSD.
While EMDR can be highly effective, certain challenges like complex trauma, childhood trauma, dissociation, and difficulty with emotion regulation may require more time and consideration in the EMDR process.
